ASOPEP formed about 10 years ago, and is now the largest association in the department of Tolima with around 175 members. Camilo Enciso Suarez has done a great job leading this association, the coolest thing they do in my opinion is offer coffee education and training for younger generations such as cupping, quality control, barista skill, business management, and experimental cultivation practices. ~30% of ASOPEP’s members are ages 20-30, which is something you rarely see in the coffee world, especially Colombia! I know about 30-40 members of this association are women as well, and they offer a variety of Manos de Mujer certified lots, which we have purchased in the past and plan to in the future as well.
